A self-proclaimed personal development junkie…
internet marketing diva and all around thrill-seeker, I spend my days in the city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia indulging in my many passions and pretty much “living the dream.”
I work with an amazing online publishing company called MindValley where I manage and grow a multi-million dollar a year personal development business online. When I’m not at Starbucks working some marketing magic on my MacBook, you’ll find me doing one of the many other things I am passionate about: traveling, diving, writing, photography, surfing, dancing or wake boarding. Sound fun? It is.
For me, life is all about living and I wake up every morning with this mantra echoing in every corner of my mind. I’m a member of an elite group of “go-getters” that Tim Ferris (author of “The 4-Hour Work Week”) refers to as the “New Rich.” Not rich with money (although money is definitely not something I worry about), but rich with time and mobility to do whatever the hell I want, whenever the hell I want. This is the reason behind why, at the age of 23, I have already lived in 3 different continents, traveled to over 120 cities in 23 different countries and am able to travel somewhere new almost every single month.
I am not going to lie.
Life. is. good.
Even as I write this – I am looking around wondering how life could get any better. I am sitting on a sun bed next to the swimming pool in the peaceful courtyard of my apartment complex. The sun is beaming, it’s 28 degrees and the breeze is heavenly. I am watching the giant palms swaying softly above me and listening to the delightful chirping of the tropical birds that flutter above the pool’s glassy surface. I know is all sounds a bit (ok a lot) like a fairy tale… as if later I will sing and dance with all my talking furry friends in the magical forest and then join my 7 favorite dwarfs for crumpets and tea. The sheer cheesiness of it all makes me feel a bit ill but I swear to you – THIS IS MY LIFE (ok.. maybe minus the crumpets) and it can be yours too!
Right now you are probably wondering how the hell, at only 23, I am living the life most people wait till retirement to enjoy. Well I can tell you right now that it wasn’t money or “connections” that got me where I am today. I got here on pure passion and gall.
Don’t get me wrong, getting here wasn’t necessarily easy (although looking back now it seems ridiculous that I had any doubts). I had to do a lot of things that scared me shitless to get me lounging next to this swimming pool in S.E. Asia on a weekday (and making money while doing it).
I left home for University when I was only 17 to quench my need for “new” and I haven’t looked back since. I moved to Europe when I was 21, then to Malaysia at 22. I gave up on my “life long dream” of going to law school and left my family, close friends and everything else I knew to be comfortable behind – why?
WHY THE F*** NOT??
How many of you are in your early 20’s, freshly graduated from which ever college or institution your parents expected you to attend, moved back in with mom and dad, and completely miserable? You can’t find a job because of the so-called “recession” (which I refuse to buy into by the way) and the best thing you can think of doing is going back to school to slave away for another 4 years learning pointless bullshit or getting a job as a “beer tub girl” or bartender at the local pub just so society doesn’t brand you as an unemployed, pathetic LOSER!?
Ok so that was harsh – but hate me or love me you have a decision to make. Leave now (and go back to your miserable life) or get off your ass and start living the life of your dreams.
This is where I come in. I dedicate this blog to showing you how you can break free from the mold society squishes us into (along with a million and half other brain-dead try-hards) and actually live a passionate, fulfilled life at any age.
To living the dream,
~ A
